Tonight as I finished the final preparations for tomorrow's worship service, I entered the sancturary and found a new prayer.
Around Canada hockey sticks have been put on display at homes and businesses to show solidarity and support for the Humboldt Broncos and their families. Some are arranged, some are simply leaning against doorposts and walls.
One has come to rest in our sanctuary in the Oyen United Church. It rests with a broken cross, surrounded by the shining gold and white of God's presence that we know picked up the broken and created new life without pain but with much promise.
Together, we pray and remember the promise of life beyond the pain.
May it be so.
