The Empress Congregation sold their building in 2014 but continued to meet for worship occasionally through the summer months using St. Mary's Anglican Church which is now owned by the Empress Historical Society.
On November 1, 2017 the congregation was formally closed. In their closing, their legacy was continued with the gifts of donations to the United Church's National Mission and Service Fund, Bar Harbour Camp, the United Church Archives, the Pioneer Pastoral Charge.
