Worship June 21: Solidarity

Today's reflection and service are set against more challenges in the world.

We have seen the rising of the Black Live Matter movement because of systemic rascism in many of our societal systems. Set against the restrictions that are still in place around the world because of the threat of COVID-19, we see a world that looks as though it is exploding.

We are chaving against changes in our living, of perceived withdrawal of freedoms and privileges. We are fearful and angry and sore and confused. In June we are also asked to celebrate and explore Gay Pride Month and Indigenous History Month. Everywhere we turn life is changed and changing and our normal is floating out of sight.

In today's scripture, Jesus tells the disciples that living God's love in the world is dangerous and bewildering. He says that standing up for the right thing is hard work and may put us in conflict with family and friends, but that standing up for justice and equaility needs our boldness and bravery.

How are we listening to those who are asking for our solidarity in their struggle? How are we putting aside our own fears to love God's people?

Let's not be afraid. Let's be Love.
